WORKING TO MAINTAIN SMALLER CLASSROOM SIZES
I am committed to engaging the district to work on class size reduction for all grade levels and improving the teaching and learning environments for both our educators and students. Smaller classes provide a more conducive environment for student performance; provide more opportunities for learning programs tailored to individual student needs; students of smaller classrooms have more interest in learning; and teacher morale is often times higher. Community support of smaller classroom sizes is important to the overall health of our school district and I am proud to support the renewal of the parcel tax as one way to support smaller classroom sizes.
WORKING TO EXPAND INNOVATE PROGRAMS
Our Alameda schools have award winning innovative program that emphasize development in science, technology, and math. These educational foundations must continue to be a priority for our district. We also need to build upon and expand advanced placement programs so students can excel and have the skills required for attending and graduating college. Additionally, we need to prepare students for an opportunity to have meaningful careers after high school by creating career pathways in the building trades, in the transportation sector, and within public safety.
WORKING TO RETAIN AND ATTRACT THE BEST TEACHERS AND SUPPORT STAFF
Alameda teachers and school staff have worked tirelessly to make our school district what it is today. The hard work of employees must be recognized, supported, and appreciated. Our children cannot afford to lose highly quality teachers to neighboring districts because of economics, better rates of pay, or better benefits. The district must do better by our teachers; when our teachers do well, our children do well.
